Sizes, order and patterns
At the theatre the focus is on sizes and order. Help arrrange Mr. Green’s actors for the stage show.
Math Awareness
Awareness of various sizes and orders. Exercise recognizing a pattern by either filling in a missing space or by repeating the pattern.
Materials
Various vegetables and fruits. For example, the different sizes of leaves from a Romaine salad head, triangular slices of melons in different sizes, tomatoes, carrots, potatoes, blueberries, strawberries, blackberries, peas, mini corn… Eyes (sugar eyes and cake glue).
Activity
Play with the different vegetables and fruits. Attach eyes to turn them into characters. Sort in sizes and make different pattern formations. Besides working with sizes, you can practice patterns like AB, AAB, ABB, ABC, ABA, AABB.
Play/learn
Talk about the line-ups.
Are they the same size? Who is tallest? Can you see who is missing? Who stands in the middle? Who is first, last…?
